Apple Customer Number or a reseller? One skips the paperwork.
Devices bought directly from Apple, online or at an Apple Store, only appear in Apple Business (formerly Apple Business Manager) automatically if your organization has an Apple Customer Number linked to it. Buying through an Apple reseller like GatorTec skips that step.
What an Apple Customer Number is
It's the account number Apple gives an organization that buys from Apple directly. To use it in Apple Business, your organization's legal name and address have to match the ones on the Apple account, and the number has to be verified. For Apple Store purchases, Apple's Business Team issues it. For many businesses it's a lengthy process, and purchases made before you have one, or on someone's personal account, won't link to it.
Without one, devices go in by hand
A device that wasn't submitted by Apple or a reseller can only be added to Apple Business by hand, one at a time, with Apple Configurator. For the first 30 days after it's enrolled, the person using it can release it from Apple Business and remove its management: the security policies, apps and settings your MDM put there.
With a reseller, it's automatic

Yes. Apple Business accepts several Apple Customer Numbers and Reseller Numbers, so devices from Apple and from GatorTec can all land in the same account.
Can devices we already bought at an Apple Store be enrolled later?
Only by hand, with Apple Configurator, and for the first 30 days after enrollment the person using the device can release it and remove its management.
What does GatorTec need from us?
Add our Reseller ID 5559440 in Apple Business once and send us your Organization ID. That's it.
